Nokta Simplex+ Raising The Bar For Entry Level Detectors?

Back around November 2018, Nokta announced a new range of entry-level metal detectors that combine a high spec with a low price. Called ‘Simplex’ the clue is very much in the name. These are turn-on and go detectors but with some really interesting features that would appeal to the mid-range buyer as well as those just starting out. The biggest selling point is that these detectors are fully waterproof to 3 metres! Yes, folks you can get into underwater detecting with an entry-level detector.

The ‘Simplex’ range was slated for a Q1/Q2 2019 release but as with most product launches, this seems to have been a little optimistic. Here we are in June 2019 and no sign of Nokta releasing these machines to market just yet. The latest estimated release date is October. However, from what I have seen of the Simplex they may well be worth the wait. Take a look at what we know so far and perhaps you will agree. There are two models by the way. The more expensive of the two is called ‘Simplex’ Plus’. We don’t have the full spec for both yet but they are pretty similar.

All settings are contained on one screen which makes it very easy to use. No delving through sub-menus here!

Also, there is no manual ground balancing or none that I am aware of which may be a deal breaker for some but I guess it depends on how good the auto-tracking is.

So there you have it. The Nokta Simplex. Given the spec and the price, it doesn’t have any competition in the market right now. Probably the closest would be the Quest Q20 and Q40 but although they are water resistant they are not submersible. The Q40 is also substantially more expensive and lacks some features that the Nokta Simplex has as standard.

It will be interesting to see how other manufacturers respond. I will certainly be getting my hands on a Nokta Simplex at the earliest opportunity!
