Garrett Ace Apex Revealed!

It has certainly been a torturous wait since we first heard the news that Garrett was going to introduce a new machine to the market. Due to be showcased at the Charles Garrett Memorial Hunt IV scheduled to have taken place March 27 – 29, 2020 this event had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 situation.

However, Garrett decided to innovate and move the launch to an online event which took place 15th May 2020.

Introducing the Garrett Ace Apex

The Ace Apex is the new top-end addition to the very popular Ace range. This is an all-new machine from Garrett and marks a new era for the Ace lineup. It is very unlike anything the company has produced at this price point before.

Taking advantage of the latest cutting edge technology Garret have moved into the simultaneous multi-frequency world with what they called ‘Multi-Flex Technology’. And although it is early days it is clear that Garrett intends to overhaul their entire range of machines with this technology going forward.

Multi-Flex Technology

We don’t yet know much about the tech behind this multi-frequency system but given that Minelab’s patents expired on their old FBS tech it is likely to be based on that in some way.

There are two simultaneous frequency modes. One for normal detecting…inland, fields etc and one specially designed for Saltwater detecting which has always been something of an Achilles heel for the existing Ace range.

Selectable single frequencies of 5, 10, 15 and 20 kHz. It was mentioned in the product showcase that the detector is able to use full power in these modes which do make us think, is the simultaneous mode in some way hampered by having to scan all frequencies at the same time?

Either way, it seems that simultaneous multi-frequency is now the way forward. Where does that leave the single frequency competition? Time will tell.

Conclusions

It is a highly competitive market out there at the moment. Some had worried that Garrett was being left behind. It is clear from the work that has gone into the Ace Apex that the company had been hard at work, keeping an eye on the competition and raising their game to not only match but exceed the spec and performance of anything else out there at this price point.

There is no doubt that the Ace Apex will follow in the footsteps of the success of the existing Ace range and once again become the worlds biggest selling metal detector.
