Joan Allen Electronics Goes Into Administration

Article Updated. Scroll to the bottom.

It is always a sad day when any metal detecting business goes down but especially so when it is one of the oldest names in the industry.

We had heard rumours that, Joan Allen Electronics was about to go into administration. But nothing was confirmed until today.

Statement by Luke Mahoney, former director of Joan Allen Electronics:

It with great sadness that the amazing institution that was joan allen has died, this was not down to mismanagement or any fault internally, but from an insidious external hacker that was either hired to or acted on their own to hack into the site and cause a spiral of events that was too much even for joan allen to bear. (Please note no customer data was compromised during this time)
From the sadness we can take joy in the fact that we made some truly incredible friends and met some of the most interesting people on gods Green earth.
From events to finding hoards, joan allen carried itself with pride.
A fundamental principle of joan allen was always its service, we were the best in the Uk in my personal opinion and possible further afield as well.
We outshine with our advertising and marketing having some of the best influencers making some of the best media, so many could enjoy the hobby and feel safe in the knowledge that should they want to make a purchase then we could point them towards the right media and then talk them through their purchase.
A massive thank you to every single one of our amazing customers must be said, for without our customers, nothing would ever have existed , this is at the heart of my sadness, we have looked after our customers for many years, many of whom I know by name, we have shared many experiences with you and listened to stories good and bad.
I wish we could be there for many more years to come but this simple cannot be, we fought as hard as we could for as long as we could at great personal cost to both myself and my family but enough as they say is enough.
Now the final curtain is falling.
Before that happens however, we are going to have one last roll of the dice.
Going forward all products will be available at 20% off while stocks last (Use Code JOANALLEN at checkout)
I say all this without prejudice and mean it from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you everyone.
Happy hunting.
Luke Mahoney
Former director of Joan Allen Electronics
We are sure that Luke and the team will make good on any existing orders and ensure that any machines in for repair will be reunited with their owners in good time.

NOTE: Since this article was published, both Luke Mahoney and his wife Syrie are still listed at companies house as “active” directors of Joan Allen Electronics Limited. The company is also listed as active. This means the above statement put out by Luke Mahoney is, in fact, not correct. He is not a “former Director of Joan Allen Electronics. He is still very much active. We have also seen reports of people ordering goods from the website and not receiving them and not being able to get a response to their enquiries. The company has been reported to trading standards. See the comments section below.

It should also be noted that contrary to information on their website, Joan Allen Electronics is no longer the UK distributor for Fisher Metal Detectors. The new distributor for Fisher Metal Detectors is https://www.uneartheduk.co.uk

The new distributor for Quest Metal Detectors is https://spinadiscmetaldetectors.com/

  1. Having tried repeatedly/unsuccessfully to contact Luke Mahoney at Joan Allen Electronics (even taking time to visit the stripped out shop in Suffolk) to try and recover the Fisher F19 that I originally purchased from Joan Allen , which was sent to him for warranty repair and confirmed as received just before he opted to close his business, I find his latest statement as hollow and misleading as his previous public pronouncements. I have referred him to Trading Standards and sincerely hope that he is prosecuted for trading illegally and fraudulently when his business was clearly insolvent. A sad and ignoble end to a Company/brand that was always held in such high regard.

  2. Hi Clive, So you still have not been able to retrieve your Fisher F19? Have you checked with Leisure Promotions to see if they have your F19? Apparently they were honouring all warranty work that was left outstanding.

It is, perhaps, somewhat misleading of the business to claim that they have ceased trading when they are clearly still trading online and make no mention of the closing of the business on their website.

  3. Ordered on the 10th October from a fully functioning website. No delivery, no response to communication for a month, website is still up today and no doubt taking orders, very fraudulent activity.
Ill try to get a refund through paypal,…. Not Good.
If you stop trading you really should turn the website off or its theft.

  4. You are not the only one John. We have heard of others who have had similar experiences. Joan Allen has been reported to Trading Standards. I agree that the website should be taken down. Their excuse is that they are only selling remaining stock but clearly, in your case this is not true or you would have received your order. As far as I can tell, the company has not gone into administration. Luke Mahoney and his wife are still listed as active directors. No administrator has been appointed and no notice has been made to the London Gazette, which is where all companies who go into administration or insolvency are required to announce it. I hope you have reported the company to Trading Standards? Good to hear that you paid via PayPal. You should be covered under their money back guarantee.
