He Thought It Was A Rusty Bucket – Very Rare Anglo-Saxon Bowl
Metal detectorist Chris Ulliott has been talking about how what he thought was an old rusty bucket turned out to be something very rare indeed. Chris was taking part in an organised dig in Ryedale, North Yorkshire, back in February 2023 when he unearthed the “rusty bucket”.
The find has since been identified as a rare anglo-saxon bowl which was subsequently sold at auction for £36,400. Chris and the landowner have split the profits 50/50.
Chris who works as a professional photographer has used his share of the proceeds to buy new camera equipment and treat the family to a holiday.
Chris’s experience goes to emphasise the importance of having an agreement in place with any landowner who’s land you are detecing on so that proceeds are evenly shared between the parties involved.
