Quest S30 and S40 SimultiQ Specifications And Pricing
In addition to the top of the line Quest SimultiQ S-Pro model recently featured, the company also has two entry level models in the S30 and S40.
All the SimultiQ models are based on the same hardware so for example they share the same Super3D Gen2 Telescopic shaft, armrest and control box. They also feature the same 2 D target identification display in the lower part of the screen and they can all make use of the same coils. The differences are in the feature set. With the S30 losing most of the features available in the other models. Bear in mind that the S-Series is still undergoing testing and specifications are subject to change.

Conclusions
The S40 gains Bluetooth audio, more sensitivity settings, adjustable recovery speed, ferrous bias setting, ground balance with tracking and 2 x user custom profiles. That is a lot of extra functionality for just $100/€100 more. And it could be money well spent as it would make for a more versatile and rewarding machine suitable for a wider range of sites.
Being able to manually ground balance and set recovery speed can dramatically change how well your search goes. You can uncover targets that may otherwise have been missed. For example In areas with high mineral content (e.g., wet sand, red clay, or black sand), minerals can produce signals that mimic metal. Manually setting ground balance allows you to filter out these minerals, helping to reducing false signals. You may also gain extrra depth.
Recovery speed determines how quickly a metal detector can respond to one target after detecting another. Adjustable recovery speed can mean faster detection in trashy areas, better seperation of targets and with a slow recovery speed, maximize depth in cleaner ground.
So whilst the S30 may be a good way to start your detecting adventures it might be wiser to hold off and spend a little extra on the S40.
