Quest V80 Initial Thoughts

As mentioned in another thread. I already had the V60 but I also wanted to test the V80. Why bother if they are so similar? Well because all the tests, what little there have been so far, are on the V80. And it is users of the V80 who have reported issues with EMI mitigation and eratic numbers etc. Generally the concensus has been that it is not stable.
So even though the V60 and V80 are essentially the same machine I thought it was important to test each model seperately and hence why I bought the V80.
I will emphasize again, I "paid" for both machines. I am not supported by Quest or their dealers and I have no affiliation with the company, although I did work closely with them in the past. That did not end well but, I still like the machines so, we move on
My first impressions of the V80 are pretty much the same as for the V60. Obviously the V80 comes with the carbon fibre shaft, which is a big plus because this machine is not the lightest on the market at approx 1.4kg/3.08 pounds. If it had been fitted with the smaller 9" coil, that would have helped a lot but for now, I just have the 11".
The V80 also comes with upgraded headphones, the Wirefree Pro. And they are a really nice pair of headphones. Very comfortable, at least on my head. Also in the box is the WRX receiver. This little unit allows you to use your favourite wired headphones wirelessly with the V80.
The V80 I have came with the latest firmware installed which is version 3.3.0, the same as installed on the V60. Now, according to Quest, this is not actually very good and they have advised people to roll back to the previous version. I have had no issues with it so far but that could be just because the ground I have searched is not causing the machine any problems. Time will tell!
Everything else, so far, checks out fine but I will be testing the V80 along with the V60 over the next couple of weeks to see if I can replicate the issues other users have reported.
One thing I can definitely confirm is that these are very high tech machines. There is a lot going on and perhaps the complexity could be the achilles heel. Who knows?
