Full Quest V60 and V80 Reviews - Beach & Inland

Post by Sol »

After extensively testing the V80 and V60 over the past couple of weeks I have finally reached a few conclusions about these machines.

Most of the complaints have been about EMI and target ID stability. At first I did not experience any of these issues whilst testing, until that is I took them to the beach near the pier. Here the EMI monster reared its ugly head! No amount of tweaking, noise cancelling, restarting or even dropping sensitivity to zero helped. The only thing that worked was to move away from the pier.

You can read all about the EMI issue on the website:

And here is the full V60/V80 review:

But to summarize. The V60 and V80 are good machines but not great machines. They are generally well made and I enjoy using them, with the exception of the EMI issue which really needs to be addressed by the company. But it seems they are about to be replaced after just 12 months on the market.

There is a new S-Series coming that is not only cheaper but retains many of the features of the V-Series. More about those here:

I would not advise anyone to purchase a V60 or V80 at the moment. Although if you are tempted, look out for a used one because at retail price the V60 is just not worth looking at. It is just £20 cheaper than the V80. Whoever came up with that pricing strategy needs their head examined! The V80 gives you so much more for your money but even that machine is overpriced in comparison to the competition from Nokta and Minelab.

If buying used make sure you get the original purchase receipt. It is important because without Quest and their dealers/distributors are unlikely to honor the warranty.

The whole marketing, pricing and promotion of the V60/V80 has been a mitigated disaster. These could have been great machines but I have a feeling they will soon be consigned to history and remembered for all the wrong reasons.
