Garrett Vortex Testing

There has been very little real information about the Garrett Vortex lately. After the big product launch in June followed by the announcement that it was not really a “product launch” more of a product sneek peek. and that the Vortex was, in fact, not ready for launch. It was now a prototype and some changes were being made before it started production.

Testers “influencers” were told they could show the machine but not the live screen or the tones. Which does not make sense if you watch the original June product launch. Back then there was no mention at all that the Vortex was still a prototype. We were reliably told the machine would be in stores in July. Which is kind of odd when you consider, according to Garrett’s recent statements, that the Vortex had not even gone into production.

The Video

And so we come to this official Garret video. I watched it and for a moment was at a loss for words. This was supposed to be about the Vortex right? Instead what we see is a group of men acting like adolescent boys. For some reason they are hacking their way through the undergrowth in order to reach a field which apparently had a lot of Roman finds on it.

And so they stumble out of the jungle into a farmers field, complete with hay bails and a farm. Are we then to assume the farmer gets his tractor to the field by hacking his way through the brambles?

There was absolutely no reason for this childish pretence of having to fight their way through to the field. They could have arrived by car but some budding Speilberg obviously thought it would make a more interesting video to do it this way.

As if that attempt at an Indian Jones storey line was not bad enough we then get to see said men boys gettinge overly exctited at digging up some Roman grots at a few inches down. At no time did anyone demonstrate the Vortex’s ability to do anything that the Apex or any other machine could not already do. We were not shown the screen, or numbers or given an idea how the different recovery speeds perform. Absolutely no information about the Vortex at all. Just a bunch of childish men playing around in a field.

Conclusion

If this is the best they can come up with I suggest they stay at home and leave the testing to independent field testers. We don’t need gimmicks and stunts. Just give us the information about the machine and how it performs in varying conditions and against other brands in the same price bracket. That would be a video worth watching.

And by the way Garrett, removing comments from your videos just because someone asks a sensible question instead of sucking up to the company is definitely not a good look. Bear in mind there are plenty of other social media platforms out there!
