Treasure Hunting World is run by me, Saul Hudson.
My background is in tech and IT and as a result, I have always been right up to date with the latest technology. I also run a small website design and hosting business https://rabbittreestudio.com
I began my treasure hunting adventures back in the mid-’70s with a Whites Beachcomber 6D. It was a simple machine with just two controls but worked remarkably well for the time and my modest successes with it encouraged me to stay with the hobby.
Over the years I graduated to more complex machines and these allowed me to search more types of ground and expand my knowledge of detecting and history in general. I have probably owned in excess of 35 machines so far and with new machines always on the horizon, there is no reason to think that number will not keep increasing in the years to come.
Detectors have changed since the 70s’, although not as much as you would expect given the amount of time that has passed since I first picked up a machine. Interfaces are now mostly digital with large VDUs and smaller control panel housings. Battery life has improved which means fewer batteries with longer life or they are built-in rechargeable. And recovery speed (the time it takes to detect a signal, drop it and detect another) has also improved along with processing power.
Metal detectors today are also much lighter which makes for less arm strain, longer detecting sessions and more time to enjoy the hobby we love.
Treasure Hunting World is a forum on which to share my own thoughts and experiences about metal detecting as well as the latest industry news and to reflect on what is happening in the hobby today.
GL & HH!
